LONDON, 2 OCTOBER: As Hexagon Cup, the newcomer to the padel event scene, gears up to its inaugural event at Madrid Arena, 31 January to 4 February, 2024, the organisation is pleased to announce the appointment of Tim Godfrey as Strategic Advisor.
Born under the slogan "For the Fans. For the Players. For the Game", the innovative Hexagon Cup padel project will see male, female and ‘next gen’ players combine with leading team owners from global sports and entertainment to compete for a share of an impressive one-million euro prize fund, creating a truly exciting new team competition and fan experience.
With previous leadership roles within innovative sports brands, Tim’s most recent endeavours include the successful launch of the PTO Tour, the leading triathlon tour from the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) where he served as Chief Marketing Officer and SailGP, the international sailing series, as their first Chief Media and Marketing Officer. Tim was also part of the original launch team at Formula E as Global Head of Media, and is now linking back up with his former colleagues to launch a revolutionary new padel concept.
"We are pleased to welcome Tim Godfrey to the Hexagon Cup team," said Simon Freer, Chairman of Hexagon Cup. "His vision, leadership, and strategic insights will be invaluable as we continue to grow and innovate."
In his role as Strategic Advisor, Tim will work closely with the Hexagon Cup's founders and leadership team to provide guidance across media rights, marketing and distribution.
Tim Godfrey expressed his enthusiasm about joining Hexagon Cup, stating, "I am thrilled to reunite with my former colleagues from Formula E and the other Hexagon Cup founders, on a new concept which will revolutionise Padel.”
Hexagon Cup’s visionary founders are rooted in the sports industry. Based on an idea born and developed by the main founders of Formula E, it was then turned into a reality by the best professionals of the padel and sports ecosystem.
Well-known for having founded Formula E, Extreme E, and E1, the Hexagon Cup founders, who included Enrique Buenaventura, Simon Freer, Alejandro Agag and Alberto Longo, have sports disruption, innovation, and creativity built into their DNA. They are passionate about respecting the true heritage of padel, whilst using their collective sporting experiences to drive the fanbase for the sport to new global audiences.
Tim Godfrey’s appointment follows announcement the event has enlisted sports heavyweight Oak View Group International (OVG) to oversee its commercial and sponsorship sales strategy.
Further news on teams, players, commercial partnerships and media rights deals will follow over coming weeks.
